TEHRAN – Iran's Constitutional Council validated on Saturday the registration of military staff as candidates for the country's presidency.

"It happened before. Military personnel applied for candidacy in previous terms and there is no legal ban," Abbas-Ali Kadkhodaei, spokesman for the council, said at a press conference in capital Tehran, according to the council's official website.

Two members of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps have declared their intention to run in the next Iranian presidential election, which is scheduled for June 18

The spokesman clarified that in Iran, military staff are banned to "interfere" in elections or voice support for candidates other than themselves.
