BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN / MANILA / HANOI / SINGAPORE / SEOUL / KUALA LUMPUR / DHAKA / NEW DELHI – Bangladesh began administering the 4th dose of COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday to priority groups in its capital city of Dhaka.
The priority groups include those working on the frontline of the pandemic combat and pregnant women, said Ahmedul Kabir, director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), after launching the campaign at a hospital in Dhaka.
People aged above 60, who already received their third COVID-19 jabs, will also be vaccinated under this campaign, according to the DGHS.
Since the pandemic began in 2020, the country has so far recorded a total of 20,36,938 cases, with 29,438 deaths and 19,86,857 recoveries, the DGHS said.
As of December 2022, about 339 million vaccine doses have been administered in Bangladesh.

Brunei
Brunei logged a daily average of 332 new COVID-19 cases in the past week compared to 434 cases per day the week before, official statistics released on Monday showed.
According to the health ministry's weekly briefing, 38,422 Antigen Rapid Test (ART) results were uploaded to the government platform within one week, with 6.4 percent of them being positive.
A total of 287 new cases were reported on Monday, of which 286 cases were the result of ART tests and one case was the result of 48 Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RTPCR) laboratory tests performed in the past 24 hours.
Currently, one hospitalized case is held in the intensive care unit and two cases require oxygen assistance, the health ministry said.
As of Sunday, 78.9 percent of Brunei's population had received three doses of COVID-19 vaccines, while 11.4 percent had taken the fourth dose.

India
India reported 112 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, with the active caseload standing at 3,490.
The South Asian country logged three new deaths related to COVID-19, taking the death toll to 530,677 since the beginning of the pandemic.
According to data released on Tuesday morning by the federal health ministry, a total of 44,142,032 COVID-19 patients have been cured and discharged from hospitals.
Malaysia
Malaysia reported 721 new COVID-19 infections, as of midnight Monday, bringing the national total to 5,018,584, according to the health ministry.
There are three new imported cases and 718 cases of local transmissions, data released on the ministry's website showed.
Another two new deaths have been reported, pushing the death toll to 36,808.

Philippines
The Philippines reported 863 new COVID-19 infections on Monday, bringing the number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 4,057,129.
The Department of Health said the number of active cases dropped to 17,593, while 30 more patients died from COVID-19 complications, taking the country's death toll to 65,094.
Metro Manila, the capital region with over 13 million people, tallied 338 new cases.

Singapore
Singapore reported 708 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the total tally to 2,190,057.
A total of 105 cases are currently warded in hospitals, with six of them held in intensive care units, according to statistics released by the country's Ministry of Health.
One new death from COVID-19 was reported on Monday, raising the total death toll to 1,710.

South Korea
South Korea reported 87,559 new COVID-19 cases as of midnight Monday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 28,302,474, the health authorities said Tuesday.
It marked the highest daily cases in 97 days since Sept 14 amid rising worry about the resurgence in winter.
The daily caseload was sharply up from 26,622 in the prior day and higher than 86,830 tallied a week ago, according to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA).
For the past week, the daily average number of new cases was 65,946.
Among the new cases, 74 were imported from overseas, lifting the total to 72,727.
Fifty-six more deaths were confirmed, leaving the death toll at 31,490.

Vietnam
Vietnam recorded 234 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, up 57 from Sunday, according to its ministry of health.
All the new cases were locally transmitted, said the ministry.
The new infections brought the total tally to 11,523,161. The Southeast Asian country reported a new death from the pandemic in the southern province of Ben Tre on Monday, bringing the total fatalities to 43,180.
