Death toll rises to 10 in building collapse in Iran

TEHRAN – The death toll in a 10-story commercial building collapse in southwestern Iran rose to 10, a local Red Crescent Society official said on Tuesday.

The number of injuries rose to 35 in the Metropol Building incident that took place on Monday in the city of Abadan, Vahid Shabani, the Red Crescent managing director in Khuzestan province, was quoted by the official news agency IRNA as saying.

Ten people have been arrested for the incident, in which the building's owner and contractor were killed, the Mizan news agency of the Iranian judiciary reported

It is estimated that 50 other people are still trapped under the debris, said Mojtaba Khaledi, the spokesman for Iran's emergency services.

Ten people have been arrested for the incident, in which the building's owner and contractor were killed, the Mizan news agency of the Iranian judiciary reported.

The under-construction building is located in a crowded street in downtown Abadan, surrounded by commercial and medical complexes and offices.
