India’s daily COVID-19 caseload falls below 1,000

YANGON / MANILA / SINGAPORE / HANOI / NEW DELHI / SEOUL / KUALA LUMPUR / WELLINGTON – India's daily COVID-19 caseload on Monday fell below the 1,000 mark, officials said.

According to federal health ministry data released on Monday morning, 937 new cases of COVID-19 were reported during the past 24 hours, taking the total tally to 44,661,516 in the country.

The cases reported on Monday mark a decrease in comparison to the daily caseload of Sunday which stood at 1,132.

With the reporting of fresh cases, India's active caseload currently stands at 14,515.

The country also logged nine related deaths during the past 24 hours, pushing the overall death toll to 530,509 since the beginning of the pandemic, the ministry said.

Malaysia

Malaysia reported 3,913 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight Sunday, bringing the national total to 4,927,451, according to the health ministry.

There are four new imported cases, with 3,909 cases being local transmissions, data released on the ministry's website showed.

Five new deaths were reported, pushing the death toll to 36,487.

Myanmar

Myanmar has vaccinated more than 37.4 million people for COVID-19 as of Saturday, showed the latest data from the Ministry of Health.

The vaccinated people include over 30.7 million people aged 18 and above, the ministry said.

On Sunday, the health ministry confirmed 45 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the total tally to 632,274.

The death toll from COVID-19 in the country remained unchanged at 19,485 on Sunday with no new deaths reported from the pandemic.

New Zealand

New Zealand recorded 20,802 new community cases of COVID-19 and 41 more deaths from the pandemic over the past week, the country's Ministry of Health said on Monday.

On average, new cases per day reached 2,967 in the last week. The country has seen the number of daily cases going down steadily from over 10,000 cases nationwide in early July.

With the fresh cases, New Zealand has reported 1,852,595 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 2,119 COVID-19-related deaths since the pandemic hit the country in early 2020, the ministry said.

Philippines

The Philippines reported 1,010 new COVID-19 infections on Sunday, bringing the number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 4,009,466.

The Department of Health (DOH) said the number of active cases dropped to 16,615, while 34 more patients died from COVID-19 complications, taking the death toll to 64,274.

Metro Manila, the capital region with over 13 million people, tallied 198 new cases.

Singapore

Singapore reported 1,893 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, bringing the total tally to 2,123,328.

Of the new cases, 258 were detected through PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests and 1,635 through ARTs (antigen rapid test), according to statistics released by the country's Ministry of Health (MOH).

Among the PCR cases, 248 were local transmissions and 10 were imported cases. Among the ART cases with mild symptoms and assessed to be of low risk, there were 1,531 local transmissions and 104 imported cases.

One new death from COVID-19 was reported on Sunday, taking the total death toll to 1,687.

South Korea

South Korea reported 18,671 new COVID-19 cases as of midnight Sunday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 25,856,910, the health authorities said Monday.

The daily caseload was down from 36,675 in the previous day, but it was slightly higher than 18,510 tallied a week earlier, according to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency.

For the past week, the daily average number of new cases was 42,812.

Among the new cases, 60 were imported from overseas, lifting the total to 70,127.

Eighteen more deaths were confirmed, leaving the death toll at 29,390.

Vietnam

Vietnam recorded 241 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, down by 118 from Saturday, according to its ministry of health.

This is the lowest daily COVID-19 cases in the past two weeks, said the ministry, adding that all the new cases were locally transmitted.

The newly reported infections brought the total tally to 11,505,849. The country reported a new death from the pandemic in the southern Tay Ninh province on Sunday, bringing the total fatalities to 43,166.
