Over 37.1m people vaccinated against COVID-19 in Myanmar

YANGON / SINGAPORE / HANOI / MANILA / KUALA LUMPUR – Myanmar has vaccinated more than 37.1 million people against COVID-19 as of Tuesday, the Ministry of Health's data showed.

The figures comprised over 30.5 million people aged 18 and above and more than 6.6 million people aged under 18, the ministry said.

The health ministry confirmed 381 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the tally to 622,423, on Wednesday.

The ministry added that the health authorities tested 12,011 people for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, and the daily positivity rate was 3.17 percent.

The death toll from COVID-19 in the country reached 19,457 on Wednesday after two new deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, the ministry said.

Malaysia

Malaysia reported 2,445 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight Wednesday, bringing the national total to 4,837,005, according to the health ministry.

There are two new imported cases, with 2,443 cases being local transmissions, data released on the ministry's website showed.

Another two deaths have been reported, pushing the death toll to 36,365.

Philippines

The Philippines reported 1,500 new COVID-19 infections on Wednesday, bringing the number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 3,943,153.

The Department of Health (DOH) said the number of active cases dropped to 27,553, while 33 more patients died from COVID-19 complications, pushing the country's death toll to 62,882.

Metro Manila, the capital region with over 13 million people, tallied 671 new cases.

Singapore

Singapore reported 3,454 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the total tally to 1,900,761.

Of the new cases, 356 cases were detected through PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests and 3,098 through ART (antigen rapid test) tests, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Health.

Among the PCR cases, 332 were local transmissions and 24 were imported cases. Among the ART cases with mild symptoms and assessed to be of low risk, there were 2,882 local transmissions and 216 imported cases.

No more death was reported from COVID-19 on Wednesday, keeping the total death toll unchanged at 1,617, the ministry said.

Vietnam

Vietnam recorded 1,587 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, up two from Tuesday, according to the Ministry of Health.

All the new cases were locally transmitted, said the ministry.

The newly reported infections brought the total tally to 11,476,908. The country reported no new deaths from the pandemic on Wednesday, with the total fatalities staying at 43,147.

As of Wednesday, there were 83 severe cases in need of assisted breathing in the Southeast Asian country, according to the ministry.
