S. Korea reports 10,059 new COVID-19 cases

SEOUL / SINGAPORE / KUALA LUMPUR – South Korea reported 10,059 new COVID-19 cases as of midnight Saturday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 18,389,611, the health authorities said Sunday.

The daily caseload was slightly down from 10,715 in the prior day, but it was higher than 6,238 tallied a week earlier, according to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency.

For the past week, the daily average number of confirmed cases was 9,095.

Among the new cases, 191 were imported from overseas, lifting the total to 35,762.

The number of infected people who were in a serious condition stood at 53, unchanged from the previous day.

Eight more deaths were confirmed, leaving the death toll at 24,570. The total fatality rate was 0.13 percent.

Malaysia

Malaysia reported 2,527 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight Saturday, bringing the national total to 4,571,355, according to the health ministry.

There are four new imported cases, with 2,523 cases being local transmissions, data released on the ministry's website showed.

No new deaths have been reported, leaving the death toll to 35,771.

The ministry reported 2,359 new recoveries, bringing the total number of cured and discharged to 4,505,199.

There are 30,385 active cases, with 43 being held in intensive care and 22 of those in need of assisted breathing.

The country reported 5,958 vaccine doses administered on Saturday alone and 85.9 percent of the population have received at least one dose, 83.6 percent are fully vaccinated and 49.4 percent have received boosters.

Singapore

Singapore reported 7,952 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, bringing the total tally to 1,461,107.

Of the new cases, 765 cases were detected through PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests and 7,187 through ART (antigen rapid test) tests, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Health.

Among the PCR cases, 733 were local transmissions and 32 were imported cases. Among the ART cases with mild symptoms and assessed to be of low risk, there were 6,906 local transmissions and 281 imported cases.

A total of 559 cases are currently warded in hospitals, with 11 cases in intensive care units.

One death was reported from COVID-19 on Saturday, taking the total death toll to 1,416, the ministry said.
