S. Korea reports 5,022 new COVID-19 cases

YANGON / SINGAPORE / HANOI / SEOUL / NEW DELHI / ISLAMABAD – South Korea reported 5,022 new COVID-19 cases as of midnight Sunday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 18,168,708, the health authorities said Monday.

The daily caseload was down from 9,835 in the previous day, and lower than 6,135 tallied a week earlier, according to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency.

For the past week, the daily average number of confirmed cases was 11,759.

Among the new cases, 17 were imported, lifting the total to 33,029.

India

India's COVID-19 tally rose to 43,181,335 on Monday with 4,518 new cases registered during the past 24 hours across the country, showed the federal health ministry's latest data.

Besides, nine deaths from the pandemic registered across the country since Sunday morning took the total death toll to 524,701.

There are still 25,782 active COVID-19 cases in the country, an increase of 1,730 during the past 24 hours.

So far, 42,630,852 people have been cured and discharged from hospitals, including 2,779 discharged during the past 24 hours.

Malaysia

Malaysia reported 1,358 new COVID-19 infections, as of midnight Sunday, bringing the national total to 4,514,989, according to the health ministry.

There are two new imported cases, with 1,356 being local transmissions, data released on the ministry's website showed.

Two more deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to 35,688.

The ministry reported 1,620 new recoveries, bringing the total number of cured and discharged to 4,457,118.

Myanmar

Myanmar has fully vaccinated more than 26.8 million people against COVID-19 as of Saturday, according to the Ministry of Health on Sunday.

It said the country has administered over 61 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines, and more than 2.1 million people have received booster shots.

Myanmar reported one new case of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 613,382 cases on Sunday, according to its health ministry.

The ministry said health authorities tested 4,644 people for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, and the daily positivity rate was 0.02 percent.

It added that the death toll from COVID-19 in the country remained unchanged at 19,434 as no new deaths were confirmed in the past 24 hours.

The total number of patients who have recovered from COVID-19 in the country reached 592,346 on Sunday after 19 more patients recovered in the past 24 hours.

The Southeast Asian country detected its first COVID-19 cases in March 2020.

Pakistan

Pakistan reported 59 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, bringing the total tally to 1,530,764, the country's ministry of health said on Monday.

A total of 30,379 people died from COVID-19 in Pakistan, with no more death on Sunday, according to the ministry's statistics.

On Sunday, 14,562 tests for COVID-19 were conducted in Pakistan while the positivity rate stood at 0.41 percent.

Currently, there are 61 active cases who are in critical condition in the country.

Singapore

Singapore reported 2,256 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, bringing the total tally to 1,318,984.

Of the new cases, 243 cases were detected through polymerase chain reaction tests and 2,013 through antigen rapid test tests, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Health.

Among the PCR cases, 225 were local transmissions and 18 were imported cases. Among the ART cases with mild symptoms and assessed to be of low risk, 1,920 were local transmissions and 93 were imported cases.

A total of 290 cases are currently warded in hospitals, with eight cases in intensive care units.

One more patient has died from complications due to COVID-19 infection, lifting the death toll to 1,393, the ministry said.

Vietnam

Vietnam recorded 685 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, down 196 from Saturday, according to the Ministry of Health.

All the new infections were domestically transmitted cases reported in 36 provinces and cities.

The Vietnamese capital Hanoi was the pandemic hotspot with 207 new cases recorded on Sunday, followed by the northern provinces of Yen Bai with 79 cases and Vinh Phuc with 46 cases.

The newly registered infections brought the total tally to 10,725,239 with 43,080 deaths. Nationwide, as many as 9,504,955 COVID-19 patients, or nearly 89 percent of the infections, have so far recovered.

More than 222 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the Southeast Asian country, including over 199.7 million shots on people aged 18 and above, according to the ministry.

Vietnam has by far gone through four coronavirus waves of increasing scale, complication, and infectivity. As of Sunday, it has registered more than 10.7 million locally transmitted COVID-19 cases since the start of the current wave of infections in April 2021, said the ministry.
