Sri Lanka revokes public emergency

COLOMBO – Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on Tuesday night issued a gazette revoking the public emergency.

The public emergency was revoked from midnight of April 5, 2022, according to the gazette.

On April 1 a special gazette was issued declaring a public emergency in Sri Lanka.

The president declared the emergency a day after protests were staged near his residence on March 31.

The move has been criticized by the country's opposition political parties.
