Syrian president, Iranian minister vow to strengthen cooperation

DAMASCUS – Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Thursday discussed with the visiting Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Developments Rostam Qasemi cooperation in vital service sectors such as electricity and land transportation.

According to the Syrian presidential media office, Assad and Qasemi underscored the need to continue cooperation in the electricity and transportation sectors and activate related agreements between both countries, while working on overcoming any possible obstacles.

Both sides also highlighted the need to boost bilateral cooperation and create opportunities to face "international challenges"

During the 11-year war in Syria, Iran has emerged as a major regional backer of the Assad regime, offering military and economic support to the war-torn country.
