SEOUL – The US military on Wednesday launched a new space forces unit in South Korea, according to Yonhap news agency.

The US Forces Korea (USFK) held a ceremony at the Osan Air Base in Pyeongtaek, about 70 km south of the capital Seoul, to launch the US Space Forces Korea, a component unit of the USFK.

It is one of the few US Space Force's units to be established outside the US mainland, according to Yonhap. The United States also set up its space forces units under the Indo-Pacific Command and the Central Command last month.
