Arab trail blazer Jabeur reaches Indian Wells semis

The Tunisian Ons Jabeur has reached the semifinals at Indian Wells and is set to become the first Arab tennis player to reach the top ten in the sport’s world rankings history.

Jabeur defeated Estonia’s Anett Kontaveit 7-5 6-3 in the quarterfinals.

Jabeur would be the first Arab player, male or female, to crack the world’s top ten.

In the men’s draw, Cameron Norrie needed just 73 minutes to overpower No. 11 seed Diego Schwartzman 6-0, 6-2 to reach the semifinals.

Norrie, the 21st seed, has now won three of four career matches against Schwartzman, who was undone by a string of unforced errors.

Britain’s Norrie, appearing in his first Indian Wells quarter-final, next faces the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, who eliminated top-seeded Russian Daniil Medvedev on Wednesday. (AFP)
