HK women down Bhutan in T20 qualifier

Hong Kong’s women’s cricket team gave their chances of making the next round of T20 World Cup qualifying a boost with a comprehensive win over Bhutan in the Asian qualifiers in Dubai on Friday.

The SAR team slumped to 13 for two after being put in to bat, but rallied to post a score of 109 for eight from their 20 overs, with captain Kary Chan top scoring on 43.

The Hong Kong bowlers then finished the job off, restricting Bhutan to 89 for seven. Betty Chan was named player of the match, taking two wickets and conceding just 17 runs.

However, hosts the United Arab Emirates still lead the race for the sole qualifying place after a seven-wicket win over Kuwait on Friday.

Hong Kong next play Kuwait on Sunday.
