Next month’s Streetathon cancelled

Organisers of next month’s Streetathon on Friday announced they are cancelling the events, saying the government still hasn’t approved an exemption from its ban on group gatherings.

The Streetathon, which consists of a marathon, half-marathon and 10-kilometre race, is being postponed until the fourth quarter of next year.

“Like any large-scale outdoor activities, we need to implement a series of strict pandemic prevention measures, as well as apply for an exemption for the prohibition on group gathering order,” a statement from the organisers said.

“However, with uncertainties in the pandemic, the event has not yet received approval. Together with uncertainties in the timing, we are faced with too many uncertainties. Therefore, the activity will be postponed to the fourth quarter of 2022.”

The authorities allowed the Hong Kong Marathon to take place last month, albeit with a number of Covid restrictions in place.

The cross-harbour swim and the cyclothon will also be held in the next two months.
