US deputy secretary of state to visit South Korea next week

SEOUL – US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman will visit South Korea next week to discuss bilateral relations and the Korean Peninsula, South Korea's foreign ministry said Friday.

US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman will make a three-day visit to South Korea, during which the ninth round of the South Korea-US vice foreign ministerial strategic dialogue will be held

Sherman will make a three-day visit to South Korea from Wednesday. She will meet with South Korean First Vice-Foreign Minister Choi Jong-kun on Friday and hold the ninth round of the South Korea-US vice foreign ministerial strategic dialogue.

During the dialogue, Sherman and Choi plan to broadly exchange opinions about the South Korea-US relations, the Korean Peninsula issues, and regional and global affairs.

Before the dialogue, Choi will visit Tokyo from Tuesday to Wednesday to participate in the eighth round of the South Korea-US-Japan vice-foreign ministerial meeting on Wednesday.

The trilateral meeting will be attended by Choi and Sherman, as well as Japanese Vice-Foreign Minister Takeo Mori.

During the Tokyo trip, Choi will also hold a bilateral meeting with his Japanese counterpart Mori.
