Raisi: Iran-Uzbekistan agreements to boost ties

TEHRAN – Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on Saturday called for accelerating the implementation of cooperation agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) signed last year between Iran and Uzbekistan.

Raisi made the remarks in a meeting with Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan (the lower house of the parliament) Nurdinjon Ismoilov in Tehran, referring to the 18 cooperation agreements signed between the two countries in September last year, according to a statement published on the website of the Iranian president's office.

Raisi added exchanges between the two countries' parliaments could be another "effective and positive" step toward furthering bilateral relations.

Ismoilov, for his part, praised the Raisi administration for its neighbor-oriented foreign policy, stressing the two countries' parliaments should play an effective role in the development of bilateral relations.

Heading a parliamentary delegation, Ismoilov arrived in Tehran Friday night at the invitation of his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, with whom he held a meeting on Saturday.
