South Korea reports 23,091 new COVID-19 cases

SEOUL / WELLINGTON / KUALA LUMPUR / YANGON / SINGAPORE – South Korea reported 23,091 new COVID-19 cases as of midnight Sunday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 26,581,856, the health authorities said Monday.

The daily caseload was down from 46,011 in the previous day and lower than 23,751 tallied a week earlier, according to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA).

Among the new cases, 61 were imported from overseas, lifting the total to 70,871.

Thirty-five more deaths were confirmed, leaving the death toll at 30,066.

Malaysia

Malaysia reported 1,633 new COVID-19 infections, as of midnight Sunday, bringing the national total to 4,967,299, according to the health ministry.

There are three new imported cases, with all 1,630 cases being local transmissions, data released on the ministry's website showed.

Another two new deaths have been reported, pushing the death toll to 36,595.

Myanmar

Myanmar confirmed 18 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the tally to 633,005, according to the Ministry of Health on Sunday.

The ministry said in a statement that the health authorities tested 6,062 people for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, and the daily positivity rate was 0.3 percent.

The death toll from COVID-19 in the country remained unchanged at 19,487 on Sunday as no new deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, the ministry said.

New Zealand

New Zealand recorded 24,068 new community cases of COVID-19 and 40 more deaths from the pandemic over the past week, the country's Ministry of Health said on Monday.

On average, new cases per day reached 3,434 in the last week. The country has seen the number of daily cases going down steadily from over 10,000 cases nationwide in early July.

With the fresh cases, New Zealand has reported 1,891,853 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 2,182 COVID-19-related deaths since the pandemic hit the country in early 2020, the ministry said.

Pakistan

Pakistan reported 29 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, the Ministry of Health said on Sunday.

The overall tally of infected people increased to 1,574,897 after adding the new cases, according to data released by the ministry.

A total of 30,630 people had died of COVID-19 in Pakistan, with no new death reported in the country during the last 24 hours, according to the ministry.

Singapore

Singapore reported 1,167 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, bringing the country's total tally to 2,153,535.

A total of 182 cases are currently warded in hospitals, with eight of them in intensive care units, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Health.

One new death from COVID-19 was reported on Sunday, bringing the total death toll to 1,700.
