HK Olympic skier Audrey King tests positive for Covid

Hong Kong Olympic alpine skier Audrey King has tested positive for Covid-19 upon arrival in Beijing and has been arranged to self-isolate in a hotel.

That’s according to a statement issued by the the Hong Kong Sports Federation and Olympic Committee on Monday.

The committee said King tested positive for Covid after arriving at the Beijing Capital International Airport from Bosnia on Sunday night, with her second test also coming back positive.

According to the Beijing Olympic Organising Committee’s rules, the 19-year-old will not be able to leave quarantine until testing negative for two consecutive days, and will have to continue to undergo frequent testing.

Should she return a negative test in time, King will still be able to compete in her women’s slalom event scheduled for February 9.

Her “close-contacts”, including men’s skier Adrian Yung and coach Marko Rudic, have so far tested negative for the virus, but they will also need to self-isolate and undergo nucleic tests every 12 hours.

Yung, however will be allowed to train in designated facilities under social distancing guidelines.

The 17-year-old is set to compete in the men’s giant slalom event on February 13.
